Slavic & Central Asian Languages & Literatures

The Slavic, Iranic, and Turkic peoples are heir to the heritage of three major world civilizations. Any understanding of the dynamics of the Russian, Safavid, and Ottoman Empires, and their successor states, requires knowledge of Russian, Polish, Persian, and Turkish. The Slavic and Central Asian Languages and Literatures unit offers study of those languages; it also offers courses on the literatures and cultures of the Slavic world, Central Asia, and Turkey. The Russian faculty offers a major and a minor in Russian language and literature.
